Introduction

Born in a country obsessed with cinema and its cinematic idols, my fascination with Cinema is not surprising. Its just that we all look at cinema from different perspectives. India, being a land of such varied culture, traditions, religions, languages does throw up cinema of different kind also. The kind of cinema perhaps alien to the world. Cinema in India now to the people in Urban and to the ones in smaller towns, rural has a different connect. However, throwback to the times when cinema started in India, there was no rural or urban cinematic difference. Silent talkies, Black and white cinema were watched by people from all walks of life in India then, when perhaps the only means of entertainment was CINEMA. However, the real craze for Indian cinema , especially Bollywood seem to have been started during the 1950's with the advent of three of the first superstars. Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand. Each very different from the other, each with a different charisma, acting style, cinematic choices. People thronged to the theatres on the release of the three superstar's movies. Not to be mistaken, the 1950s, was indeed the golden age of Bollywood. With no means of entertaining resources available for the public, cinema was a fantasy which everyone wanted to experience. The above trio of superstars made some brilliant, entertaining, hard hitting cinema too.
