RAJA HINDUSTANI

     RAJA HINDUSTANI-A MEGA BLOCKBUSTER

In 1996, Aamir khan came up with the Dharmesh Darshan directed "Raja Hindustani". Aamir khan played the role of a taxi-driver who from a small town. Paired along with Karishma Kapoor, the movie which released along with the Sunny deol starrer "Ghatak" rewrote box office records. The film became a mega blockbuster, in fact considered to be among the top three highest grossing movies of the 90s. Footfalls indicate that Raja Hindustani worked everywhere from small towns, villages to cities. It connected with everyone as it had a love track, chart buster music, a family angle and of course the brilliant Aamir khan. Karishma kapoor became a star with this movie even though she had done many movies prior to it. Raja Hindustani really brought her into the big league.

The movie inspired by the Shashi kapoor starrer "Jab jab phool khilen" had again Aamir khan doing what he does best. Surprise you with his act. You can see flashes of brilliant method acting in this one too. Aamir khan really got drunk for his act in the song "Tere ishq mein nachenge". With that cap on his head and a jaded dress, Aamir khan really looked the part. Be it dancing to the chart buster tunes of Nadeem shravan, to romancing with Karishma Kapoor to conveying the pain of a jilted lover, Aamir khan did it all with aplomb. Raja Hindustani made Aamir khan a super duper star, a superstar that was here to stay forever.

The movie also had blockbuster music again by Nadeem-Shravan. "Pardesi Pardesi" , "Kitna Pyara Tujhe Rab Ne Banaya", "Aaye Ho Meri Zindagi Mein" and "Tere Ishq Mein Nachenge" all were chartbusters and still the songs play on the TV and on people's playlists.
